Thinking About Taking A Gap Year? Here’s A Few Ideas

Nowadays students are coming out of A-Levels or college and fancying taking on a gap year before going to Uni – but what options do you have for gap years? Check out what we suggest for you -

Popular Gap Year Destination Free and Cheaper Options

Coming out of A-Levels or college might not leave you with any money, therefore one option is to volunteer work where you travel. Many people do tend to work for and save money up in order to have a great travelling gap year experience. For some people funds might not be an issue and they have a large choice of where to go.

At the higher end of gap year costs there are things such as projects which are located in distant places such as Australia and Thailand, where much of the costs will be in the flights. These are expensive due to the type of activities pursued during the gap year and including all things such as travel and lifestyle.

Those without much funds available might opt for a cheaper alternative close to home. You would be surprised how much there is to see within the UK and if you have friends that are at university and are willing then it is possible to stay for a few nights in their halls of residence. Not only does this allow you to get a glimpse of what it means to live in halls, but it also cuts out the cost of a hotel, allowing for more travel for the same amount of money or more money left at the end of the year. Within Europe many budget airlines will fly you for less than £50 to nations such as Italy, Greece, Spain or France. This is an excellent
time for getting places for cheap, and really taking advantage of the budget ethos in which the travel industry operates. Opting to go to Europe opens a lot of opportunities where a travel card can be bought for around £120 which allows open ended travel for a few months depending on ticket type.

Overall the cheapest kind of activity is the kind where you will earn money and live off of what you earn whilst enjoying a gap year. Furthermore, you could even find a job abroad not attached to a gap project and earn money that way whilst still experiencing life in another country – such as working on a fram in Australia picking fruit.
