Exercise Tips For Busy Students

Exercise, we all know it’s important, but how many of us actually do it? The benefits are obvious; decreased risk of health related diseases, increased energy, improved self esteem and much more. But time is the key, you need time to exercise, time to recover. Time is something that us, as students always seem to run out of.

Student life can get very busy, especially further into courses and as the workload increases. Exercise is usually one of the first things that gets kicked to the curb once our schedules become tighter. It’s time to change this, here is a number of great tips to help you fit exercise around your busy student life.

Join a sports team

Every university has sports teams, some more than others, but there will always be something going on. Don’t have the time to join a gym and workout 4-5 times a week? Then start playing football, hockey, basketball or any other sport a couple of times a week. You’ll get a great cardiovascular workout whilst having fun. The social sides to university sports teams are also fantastic, full of laughs and banter. You can even just grab a football and have a kick around with your dorm mates a few nights a week. Exercise doesn’t have to be just in the gym.

High intensity circuits

Some people love the gym, but want to get more results for your time? How about trying some high intensity circuit routines for a change? These routines will get your heart pumping, blood flowing and are guaranteed to burn fat and build muscle. By hitting your body with a range of cardiovascular and resistance exercises, you’ll not only work off those extra calories, but increase your lean muscle too. The result of this is an increased metabolism, which in turn will aid with future weight loss.

Dorm room workouts

Is the gym too expensive or can’t motivate yourself to get down there? Then how about performing a highly effective workout right in your dorm room. With little or no equipment, you can develop a whole body exercise routine that you’ll see the benefits of in no time.

Bodyweight exercises are fantastic! Press ups, the plank, squats, lunges, pull ups, the list goes on! Even better, get yourself a kettlebell and you’ve got an incredible power and strength building tool that you can use from the comfort of your own room.

Things to avoid

Anything that promises weight loss in a few days! Unfortunately they don’t exist, well not a healthy formula anyway. Fad diets, pills and other crazy pieces of equipment you see on the shopping channel, these cleverly marketed gadgets and products are made for one thing and one thing only; making money.

A healthier lifestyle is achieved through hard work and discipline, it’s that simple. University life doesn’t have to be an unhealthy one, make some simple changes today and you’ll never regret it in the future!
