London is one of the biggest and best cities in the world, and if you’re lucky enough to go to university here, then you’re in for a real treat. Not only are there hundreds of amazing bars and clubs to choose from, but most of them offer great discounts on special student nights – all you have to do is show your student ID! If you’re new to London and you don’t know the top places to go, then your student union will always be on hand to help. However if you’re looking for something a little more alternative other than the big clubs, then here’s a guide to some other amazing student nights out in London this year.
The Live Room
Located in the area of Palmers Green in North London, the Live Room has great overground train links, as well as buses to and from central London. As the name suggests, the Live Room is all about live music, from bands and individual artists to some of the best DJs the capital city has to offer. Not only is entry free, but drinks prices are very good too – some nights are even cheaper than the local Weatherspoons! Owned and managed by local entrepreneur Tom Jackson, Jackson spend three years at Liverpool University, and has tried to replicate the best of live music in his own bar. The live Room even welcomes students on weekends too, and you might even get in for free if you show your student ID at the door.
Koko – Club NME
Located in the heart of Camden, Koko is one of the oldest clubs in London. Consisting of three floors overlooking a stage and dance floor, Koko has a different night for every day of the week, however when you see the fliers for Club NME, you better take down the date. Playing tunes from some of the biggest NME Magazine bands of that month, as well as guest appearances from celebrity DJs, Club NME is certainly a night not to be missed. Discounted entry is given to those with a student ID, however drinks prices rarely waver.
Tiger Tiger @ Haymarket
Student living in London can be quite expensive, but luckily there’s Tiger Tiger to keep those drink prices down! There are a number of Tiger Tiger clubs around the UK, however the one located in London’s high-brow area of Haymarket is a student hotspot. With entry only £5, and cheap drinks all night, you’d be crazy to miss out on this amazing night. Just like Koko, celebrity DJs are rife at Tiger Tiger student nights, however student ID is a must otherwise you won’t be allowed in. There’s also a strict dress code too, so don’t turn up in trainers or t-shirts!
Another one of Camden’s legendary clubs, Underworld has been entertaining students for years. Open most nights of the week – with Wednesdays the designated night for student parties – underworld is typically a place for heavy rockers and punks. However on Wednesdays, all types of music are played, from hip hop to pop, and students are even encouraged to come in fancy dress!
