We all have been stuck with those jobs that we do not like, but have to stay at because of financial reasons. If this sounds like you, keep reading!
It is not very good to hate your job for a couple of reasons. First, it is very difficult to go to work when you do not want to be there. Secondly, if you are posting on the internet about how much you hate your job, you may lose it before you are ready.
Keep your negative thoughts to yourself – Do not tell the world about how much you despise your job. You could end up accidentally telling the wrong person, resulting in being fired. Instead of wasting your time broadcasting your complaints, plan an exit strategy for when you are ready to leave the company. This way, you will be able to end your job after you get a new one.
Ask yourself why you hate your job – You may hate your job for several reasons, or you may just hate the duties. Your situation could also be that you like the physical work, yet you hate your co-workers and boss. Some people hate their job because of the distance from their home to work; this is a major factor when you have a long ways to drive! If you move, and the drive it just too far, you must figure something out! You must determine why you hate your job before looking for a new one because then you will know what you want, and what you do not want.
Start searching for a new job – Now you must remember that you should not quit your job before starting a new one. Update your business information such as, your LinkedIn profile, and your resume. In addition, build your network by chatting with others on a business basis. When you start searching for a job, you should not broadcast that you are looking for something else. Your job search should be quite and discreet. You would not want your boss or anyone from your current job seeing it! To search for a new job, start with the internet! You can search for jobs on job search engines such as, snagajob, indeed.com, etc. If you do not want to check those, you can search company websites and apply straight from there! Alternatively, you can search newspapers!
When it is time to move on – Even though you may want to scream from the rooftops about how you have just quit your job, that is probably a bad idea. It is also a bad idea to make your new freedom public to the world! It is okay to let people know that you have quit your job; however, you should not sound happy or excited about it. This could wave a huge red flag at the next company that you will work at. Most companies check your previous work history, and call your references. Therefore, if they say something bad about you, the company probably will not hire you. Before you quit your job, you will want to give a notice ahead of time (which is usually two weeks); this will make you look much more professional and respectful towards the company. You should leave your current job thinking any new jobs will talk to them to see how you left. Be sure to let your job know that you are willing to help with anything during the transition. When you leave your current job gracefully and kindly, you will feel much better about staying at your new one.
